Northbourne Staff Complete a Dignity Champion Course!

Resident Ruth Corbett and her son Brian enjoying the fish tank
Michael presenting the project to the residents.

Anchor, Northborne
Manager: Alison Fryer

Northbourne are very proud of 2 staff who completed a Dignity Champion course in developing dementia care. Christine Charlesworth team leader and Michael Carroll care assistant.

They chose this project after researching the benefits of a fish tank that show improvement in concentration, relaxation and nutrition. The outcome has been fantastic, a focal point where residents, visitors and staff spend time talking about the tank.

For their project they raised funds to purchase a fish tank. They did this by gathering a team to do a sponsored midnight walk to the Angel of the North raising over £500. People purchased a foot on the wall of Northbourne giving their donation amount.

Wallace House hosts a Halloween Party!

Wallace House, Ravensworth Road, Dunston, Gateshead
Activities Co-Ordinator, Samantha Harrison

Wallace House hosted a Halloween party for residents and families and friends on Friday 28th October. Staff and residents had a fantastic time getting dressed up. The event was held to raise monies for our residents fund and also a charity which is close to our hearts - F.A.C.T. Fighting All Cancers Together. We managed to raise a total of £115 which will go to a good cause. Residents enjoyed decorating the room, participating in arts and crafts prior to the event, to decorate the room and also enjoyed showing off their artwork to family and friends. A great time was enjoyed by everyone and we cant wait to arrange our next event.

Memory Walk 2011

We began our morning with Zumba exercises on the field to warm up. We were joined by Charlie Hardwick from Emmerdale who encouraged everyone to push harder with the exercises.
The Mayor of Gateshead gave a talk on the importance of the fundraising to fight dementia. Charlie Hardwick got on stage to also give us tips on fundraising.
We walked around the park for five mile taking in the sights. We raised £400 in sponsors; we received medals and certificates to display.
A great day was had by all, and a fantastic effort by the nightshift staff who went straight to the park after completing a twelve hour shift.

Thank you St Marks for sharing your story
