The Tyne and Wear Care Alliance gained funding from NHS South of Tyne and Wear to develop 66 Dementia Link Co-Ordination Champions during 2011/2012 across Sunderland, South Tyneside and Gateshead.
In South Tyneside we have recruited 22 DLCCs, who attended an introduction session on 9th November 2011 followed by a 2 day programme of learning at Primrose Centre on 24th and 25th November 2011. This training was delivered by Registered Mental Nurses and Community Occupational Therapists from they Community Challenging Behaviour Function Older Persons CMHT NHS South of Tyne.
All these candidates have been registered onto the Level 3 Certificate in Dementia accredited through OCR. The Champions are working on a number of projects and being assessed within the workplace.
