The Tyne and Wear Care Alliance gained funding from NHS South of Tyne and Wear to develop 66 DLCCs during 2011/2012 across Sunderland, South Tyneside and Gateshead.
In Sunderland we have recruited 28 DLCCs, who attended an introduction session followed by a 2 day programme of learning, in September 2011. This training was delivered by Community Challenging Behaviour Function Older Persons CMHT South of Tyne.
All these candidates have been registered onto the Level 3 Certificate in Dementia accredited through OCR. The Champions are working on a number of projects and being assessed within the workplace. To support these DLCCs with continuous professional development regular forums are planned through out 2012
